Hello, I saw that there's an update pending for the whole Opigno package, so I tried to update trough Drupal's update process, which reported Update failed: opigno_lms-8.x-1.2-core.tar.gz does not contain .info.yml files. any info how I can prevent it? (ps: of course my latest release was 2.0)

I have the feeling that you tried to upgrade it from the Drupal interface like you would upgrade a single module, so it does not work like that (since Opigno is not a module but a full distribution)
