New course creates a forum section, even if it's not needed?

Hi, I'm currently using ver 1.4, and I noticed that a forum section is still created, even if I didn't ask for it from the Course builder. Is this normal? Also, if I may suggest, is it possible to include a module such as Profile 2, and use custom fields for the adding of the student to the class? From a moderator's perspective, it's difficult to make any sense out of usernames, especially if the usernames do not reflect the actual name of the person (ex. we use usernames such as ROR01 or UR13). This becomes important, when we add multiple students within the class. Many thanks, and good job with Opigno! :)

Hi Xtrobe,

Hi Xtrobe, Yes, this is normal, the forum app automatically creates new forums on both classes and course creation. Thank you for your suggestion. I will discuss this feature viability/roadmap with the rest of the team. Best regards

Hi James,

Hi James, I understand that the forum app automatically creates new forums, however, the system still creates forums even if the forum tool is not selected. Should this be the case?

Hi Xtrobe, currently there is a bug with the forum app that it reports it is not installed in the app store but it is. The forum app comes installs with the distribution. If you want to remove it you can go to the modules page and disable it. Or just disable the rule that creates a new forum. Best regards

Hi James,

Hi James, I'd like to note some observations regarding the forums app: 1) When a new course is created, if the forum tool active, it creates the forum. However, even if this is not selected, it still is created anyway. 2) When editing an existing course, if the title of the course is renamed, the forum title is not renamed. I believe if the forum tool is active, and a renaming is done, the forum should also rename the forum. Leaving this not renamed leads to a lot of confusion. 3) When the tool is deactivated, it does not disable the forum that was already created. This might lead to even more confusion, since the user assumes that if the forum button is disabled, so must the forum topic itself. Just sending some of these to help out in improving Opigno. Cheers!

Hi Xtrobe, I will add this to our todo list. Best regards
