Displaying macrons on a certificate

Hello I'm trying to display ū within a certificate, but it looks like it's not using UTF-8. I was wondering if you would have any advice on this. I have tried the solution on : https://www.opigno.org/en/forum/support/pdf-certificates-and-cyrillc-un… but had no joy. Thanks
