Community vs. Premium Pricing & Features

Hi, I'm a system admin looking at several LMS platforms both for online learning and for collaboration features. I want to host a truly FOSS package on my server, since I'm already paying for my server and online software can become expensive over time. Sometimes the freemium features can be an obstacle to adopting a package. I'm not completely opposed to paying for the cloud features, but what I'm bothered by is at what point the pricing of the fully hosted version versus hosting myself & adding in the collaboration and video conferencing capabilities cross paths. I am not sure I'm calculating the pricing correctly, but it's looking like hosting myself and adding in the collaboration and video conferencing capabilities may be more expensive than hosting with the Business package. Since I'd be running everything else on my own server, I'm not sure this makes sense, so I want to check my numbers. Using these pages: https://www.opigno.org/en/features/opigno-collaborative-solutions - for the community package with cloud add-on feature pricing https://www.opigno.org/en/professional-services/cloud-hosting - for the fully hosted version pricing Prices are in USD 50 users with 5 video conferencing hosts: $41.50/month with the community version or $40.20 with the fully hosted Business package 100 users with 5 video conferencing hosts: $53/month with the community version or $46.70 with the fully hosted Business package 1000 users with 20 video conferencing hosts: $170/month with the community version or $163.70 with the fully hosted Business package These assume no extra disk space is needed. I understand that +1 user drops the price per person slightly on the community version. However the price savings hosting everything else on my own seems insignificant compared to having a fully hosted package. Are my numbers correct? I suppose I could personally initiate and schedule all meetings as the administrator to save money. However, I don't want that to be my "job" if we get to the point of having many people using the platform. Do all of my students need to be counted in the "users"? If I am able to have a group of users with collaboration privileges versus the entire student body, that could significantly change the numbers. If so, can privileged "collaborators" invite students/unprivileged users to view or comment on collaborations? I don't expect the entire student body to use the collaboration features, so the last question is just out of curiosity. Basically, I'll have public-facing courses with students purchasing access to courses from the web and I'll want to collaborate with some workgroups, instructors and colleagues separately from the courses. I could quickly lose all my profits for "lifetime access" students to monthly fees for the collaboration platform I use with my colleagues. Thank you, Criss

Hi Criss

Hi Criss

Thanks for your interest in Opigno.

i’m not sure to understand your calculations.

The price of business cloud instances can be calculated here:

https://www.opigno.org/en/order-cloud-hosting?plan=business&currency=usd

This price does not include live meeting and collaborative workspaces, it has to be added in addition to the price calculated with the link above.

Some additional comments:

- the features of cloud instances and on-premise instances (downloaded from our website) are the same. Cloud instances only bring additional services (hosting, maintenance and bug fixes with SLA)

- when calculating the live meeting price, keep in mind that it requires the collaborative meetings. You cannot order only the live meeting service.  The package will adapted soon to make it more simple (probably all included and one single price per user)

Best regards

Crisses

Unfortunately still confused

Thank you, Axel, I'm still confused. But I appreciate your input. I see the page where you pointed me to. The prices I calculated were from the pages I gave the links to, which I found on your site. If they aren't correct (or if I'm misunderstanding them) then I'm sorry. So — if I host my own software on my server, do I need to purchase cloud services for the collaborations & live meetings? I already assumed that I could not purchase only the live meeting service. Does purchasing the live meeting service include the fee for the collaboration services? That might explain a little of my price difference, but the cost-per-user for collaboration is not significant. It's the cumulative price over time I'm concerned with. Also, the other part of my question: would I need to purchase collaboration/live meeting services for all users/students on my server, or could it be for just administration/instructors for example? Thank you again, Criss

Hi Criss

Hi Criss

if you host Opigno on your own server you don’t need to pay the cloud instance fee, but you need to pay the subscription for the collaborative features (if you want to have the of course)

The price of live meeting subscription does not include collaborative workspaces , that have to be paid in addition. As I told you the price structure will be more simple soon, we will only offer the full package.

At the moment the collaborative workspace have to be taken for all the active users (in other words the ones that are not blocked).

best regards

Crisses

I'm still confused

OK, so to host completely in the cloud is $50/mo for 50 users. To host it myself AND pay for the collaborative workspace AND live meeting subscription for 50 users with 5 video conferencing hosts: $41.50/month What is the cost of 50 users and 5 conference hosts with collaborative workspace features if it's hosted on the cloud? $50/month base + ?? Is it $50/month + $41.50/month? I understand that you're going to change it in the future, but that doesn't do me any good right now. I'm trying to understand the price and feature difference. I still don't understand. Thank you, Criss

This is very simple !

This is very simple !

As I told you , cloud hosting does not include collaborative feature.

So, yes, for the figures you mention you would have to pay the same additional subscription for collaborative features, so the total monthly price for cloud will be 50 + 41.5

Cloud just intends to provide a hosting, so either you host and maintain yourself your Opigno instance, or you pay the cloud subscription: for that it's either 0 if you host yourself or 50 (with your figures) if you take the cloud.

Then additional collaborative features are a completely different matter to the hosting. The price is the same whatever the hosting (hosted by Opigno cloud, or on your own server, or on the servers of another hosting company wherever it is in the world): 41.5 (with your figures).

I hope it's clear now
