Custom Template Slides- etc

Hi, I have been trying to create a custom template for the Slides, multiple choice content types. The requirement is to have a 2 column layout with additional fields instead of everything in the body field. I tried to use the quiz-single-question-node.tpl.php but I cannot get much control over it. There is a known issue here https://www.drupal.org/node/1120016 Could anyone point me to right direction?
