Creating a new Content Type and adding it to the Course Tools Menu

Hi I'd like to create a variety of Content Types and have these appear as a Course Tools. Some of the content types will be for adding content and others will be for adding activities. I basically want to create a whole library of items that can be added to a course. Thanks
